Frequently Asked Questions

Can parents stay and watch their children?
Yes, parents have comfortable on-deck seating.

What is the student-teacher ratio?
In most cases the student-teacher ratio is 3 to 1. When there are four students in a younger class, there are two teachers.

This is my first time at Making Waves Swim School. How do I know which level to sign up for?
You can look on the Lesson Levels page to find detailed descriptions of the skills needed for each level. Or you can contact Making Waves for any skill level questions you might have*. Contact email: makingwavesmn@gmail.com *in the subject line write “SWIM LEVEL QUESTION”

What does my child need to bring?
We have all the equipment a child needs, but your child does needs a swim suit and a towel. We also highly recommend bringing goggles, though wearing goggles is not required. Note: We do not recommend that your child wear a sleeved swim shirt. This attire weighs down the child’s body down and makes it more difficult to learn how to swim well. Sleeved shirts typically are used for staying warm and sun protection, neither of which is a concern at Making Waves, which is located at an indoor 90 degree pool.

My 11 year old has never taken lessons. Can Making Waves help my child?
Yes, our Gator program is designed for older, novice swimmers.

How often will my child move from level to level?
We have no formal testing, but our instructors are trained at assessing student progress. When skills from one level are mastered, a student will move to the next level.

How often are lessons offered?
Lessons are 30 minutes long and offered weekly on Sundays during the school year. See the Class Schedule for current levels and times.

How much do lessons cost?
Lessons are the equivalent of $19.50 per week. A total session cost is equal to $19.50 times the number of lessons. See the Registration Page for current session prices.

If my child misses a lesson, can we make it up?
There are no make up classes, refunds or credits given. Please make effort to attend lessons each week.
